Privacy Policy

Privacy at a glance

  • Audio never leaves your phone. dB Meter listens through the microphone only while the meter is running, turns the sound into level numbers on the device as it is heard, and never records, stores or sends audio.
  • Your readings stay on your phone unless you create an account. Saved readings are numbers, a label, your notes and a time. They are sent to our servers only if you choose to create an account for backup.
  • No account is required. You can subscribe and use the whole app without giving us a name, email or password.
  • No ads, no analytics SDKs, no selling your data.

1. Scope and who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how F1v3 Group LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the dB Meter app for iPhone and Android, this website, and related support (together, the “Service”).

Subscriptions and accounts are optional parts of dB Meter, and some versions of the app may not include them yet. The sections about them apply only when you use them.

2. The microphone

dB Meter needs microphone permission to work. While the meter is running, the app reads the microphone signal and immediately computes sound-level numbers from it: the current level, the session minimum, average and maximum, and the energy in 24 frequency bands. The audio itself is used only in that moment, in memory, on your phone.

We never record audio, never store audio, and never send audio anywhere. The app cannot play back what it heard, because it never kept it. When the meter is stopped or the app is in the background, the microphone is not used.

You can revoke microphone permission at any time in your phone's settings. The app then cannot measure, but your saved readings remain available.

3. Saved readings

When you save a reading, the app stores: the time, the length of the session, whether it was A-weighted, the minimum, average and maximum level, one level value per second for the trend chart, and the label and notes you type. That is all. No audio, no location.

Readings are stored on your phone. They reach our servers only if you create an account and turn on backup, as described in Section 5. A PDF report you export goes wherever you choose to send it; we do not receive a copy.

Calibration and preferences

Your calibration offset and weighting choice are stored on the phone. The weighting choice is included in backup if you have an account; the calibration offset is not, because it is specific to that phone's microphone.

4. Subscription and the install identifier

dB Meter is sold as a subscription through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google take your payment; we never receive your card number or billing address.

So that your subscription can be recognised without an account, the app creates a random identifier for your installation the first time it opens and sends it to our server. It is a random number, not your name, email, phone number or advertising ID. When you subscribe, the store sends us a signed transaction record, which we verify and attach to that identifier so the app knows to unlock. We keep the store's transaction reference, the product you bought, whether the free trial applied, and the renewal or expiry date, so renewals and cancellations keep working and so Restore Purchases can find your subscription again on a new phone.

On iPhone, that identifier may be kept in your iCloud Keychain so a new iPhone picks it up. That storage is provided by Apple under Apple's privacy terms.

5. The optional account and backup

You can create an account in Settings if you want your readings backed up and available on another phone. If you do, we process:

  • Account data: your email address, a one-way hash of your password (we never see or store the password itself), and whether your email is verified.
  • Backed-up readings and the weighting preference, as listed in Section 3, stored on our servers so your other devices can download them.
  • Device records: a random device identifier, the platform (iPhone or Android), the app version, and when the device last connected. These let you see and sign out devices and let us prevent abuse.

Backed-up readings are stored as ordinary data on our servers so they can be merged across devices; they are protected in transit with TLS and at rest by our hosting provider's encryption, and are visible only to your signed-in devices. They contain no audio.

If you never create an account, none of this applies and your readings never leave the phone.

6. How we use information

We use information only as reasonably needed to:

  • run the meter and store your readings on your phone;
  • verify, renew, restore and manage your subscription;
  • provide the optional account, backup and multi-device access;
  • detect and prevent fraud, abuse and unauthorised access;
  • diagnose errors and keep the Service reliable;
  • answer your support and privacy requests; and
  • comply with law and enforce our terms.

We do not use your readings or notes for advertising, do not sell them, and do not train machine-learning models on them.

7. When we disclose information

We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We may disclose limited information:

  • App stores. Apple and Google, as needed to verify and manage subscriptions. Their own privacy policies apply to what they collect.
  • Service providers. Cloud hosting (Amazon Web Services, in the United States) and, if you create an account, transactional email for verification and password reset messages, under contracts that limit their use of the data.
  • Legal and safety reasons. When we believe disclosure is required by valid legal process or needed to protect people or the Service.
  • Business changes. As part of a merger, financing, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to confidentiality protections.

This website keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, browser, page requested, time). It does not use tracking cookies, advertising pixels or third-party analytics.

8. Retention and deletion

  • Readings on your phone stay until you delete them or delete the app.
  • Backed-up readings and account data are kept while your account exists. A reading you delete is kept for 30 days so your other devices can see it was deleted, then removed.
  • Subscription records are kept while the subscription is active or can be restored, and as long as billing or legal duties require.
  • An installation identifier with no subscription, no account and no activity for 180 days is removed.

Deleting the app does not delete an account. Delete it in the app under Settings › Account › Delete account, or see Delete account. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel it in the store.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

In the app you can revoke microphone access, delete readings, sign out devices and delete your account. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, and to appeal a denied request. Email privacy@stax-apps.com and tell us what you would like; if you have an account, write from its email address. We will not discriminate against you for using a privacy right.

California

California residents may have the right to know, access, correct and delete personal information. The categories we collect are in Sections 2 to 5 and are disclosed only as described in Section 7. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

This website does not use cross-site trackers, so Do Not Track changes nothing. Where the law requires, we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out of sale or sharing; we do neither.

10. Children

dB Meter is not directed to children under 13, and they may not create an account. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

11. Processing in the United States

dB Meter is operated from the United States and our servers are in the United States. If you use the Service from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as the Service or the law changes. We will post the new version here and update the date above. If a change materially reduces your privacy, we will give additional notice in the app.
