Sound-level meter

See how loud it really is.

dB Meter reads your phone's microphone in real time and shows the level the way a meter does: a big neon gauge, min, average and max, a live trace, and a 24-band spectrum. Save a reading, add a note, and export a clean PDF report.

Coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. iPhone and Android.

Measure

dBA by default, dB SPL when you want it.

A-weighting matches how people hear, and the switch to flat dB SPL is one tap away. The gauge changes colour as levels move from quiet to harmful.

Session stats

Min, Leq average and max.

The average is an energy average, the right way to average decibels. One value per second is kept for the trend chart.

Spectrum

24 bands, 50 Hz to 16 kHz.

A real-time analyzer shows where the energy sits, so a rumbling fridge and a whining fan look different.

Readings

Save it, label it, explain it.

Every saved reading keeps its stats, its trend and your notes. Pick several and export them together.

PDF report

A report you can hand to someone.

Cover page, summary, and one page per reading with its chart, in the app's own style.

Private

Audio never leaves the phone.

Sound is turned into numbers on the device as it is heard. Nothing is recorded, and no audio is ever sent anywhere.

About accuracy

A phone microphone is not a calibrated instrument. dB Meter turns off the phone's automatic gain and voice processing and uses a per-platform reference level, so the number reads like dB SPL, but every phone is different. For real work, calibrate against a reference meter using the offset in the tune menu, and treat the readings as a guide, not a certified measurement.
